The Best European Major Festival - Sziget Festival Hungary

Twenty-five of major festivals in Europe, Sziget is the first of twenty-five major European festivals by Festival Awards Europe. The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday night in Groningen, the Netherlands.
Over 350 thousand voters have decided on the best events in 2011 of different categories at the European Festival Awards, brought to life by the Yourope the European Festival Association, Virtual Festivals Europe. The awards ceremony, which is also one of the biggest event of international festival organisers, opening event of Eurosonic Noorderslag was held on 11 January with cream of the international festival organisers, music journalists. The most prestigious festival award was celebrated third time where Sziget were in compatition in the "major festival" category with twenty-five other European festivals, including the Danish Roskilde, the Belgian Tomorrowland, the German Hurricane and Scotland's largest music festival T In The Park.
Károly Gerendai, founder and chief organiser of the Sziget, said: "We are definitely happy that we won such an illustrious competition, especially now when 2012 is the jubilee year, as it is now the twentieth Sziget Festival in Europe." The cheif organiser stated, "This award confirms us that we are on the right way when - in contrast to most international festivals - we are not only focus on music line-up, but also cultural diversity, culture of different minorities, promotion of civil efforts and variety of services are also emphasised that made us unique, popular all over Europe. "Gerendai added: "Good news about Hungary at last Hungary in international media - what we always strive for - because it is important to us what the country's image is."
